Kurt Vile @ Sydney Opera House

Kurt Vile has been a welcome visitor to Australia for seemingly many years now and Friday night was another opportunity to see the great Philadelphia guitarist in action. He was playing the Sydney Opera House for the second time with his band of Violators and I can tell you it was a pretty great show. He is a supreme guitarist and this was in evidence yet again. As you might expect he played a great deal from his wonderful 2022 album in (watch my moves) and they all sounded pretty great. But he also gave us a few older tunes such as a simply epic 'Wakin on a Pretty Day' and the greatness of 'Pretty Pimpin'. His band of three are really great musicians but it was nice to hear Kurt play a couple of tunes solo such as 'Runner Ups' and a great John Prine cover. Kurt doesn't say much. A couple of brief 'Heys' and that's about it. But he has a very goofy charm that is quite endearing. It was also a great surprise and highlight to see him close with a Silver Jews cover in the encore. A great end to a wonderful night.
